Bring Music into Your Community

Following the success and acclaim of his recent album, Fragments, Yoni is now booking live concerts, residencies, and workshops across the United States and abroad. Whether performing a concert, contributing music to Shabbat services, or leading workshops, Yoni weaves original and traditional Middle-Eastern melodies together with personal stories and explanations. Through these engagements, members of your community can encounter the beautiful specificity of Arab Jewish expression, while finding meaning and healing around their own fragmented identities.

“…seductive rhythms, sumptuous strings, and dazzling virtuosity.”

World Music Central

“Deeply personal and universal. A fresh and enticing way to engage with ancient tradition.”

Laura Mandel, Executive Director of JArts Boston

  • Bring your community together to celebrate the diversity of Jewish expression. Performing music from his recent album, Fragments, Yoni will discuss his journey of learning Arabic language and music, and how he is finding his own voice as an Iraqi-Ashkenazi-American-Jewish musician. Projected slides featuring the beautiful artwork of Ariel Basson Freiberg will translate Arabic and Hebrew lyrics in real-time. This repertoire can be combined with Yoni’s original adaptation of Mizrahi Havdalah to make the perfect Saturday night event.

  • Bring Yoni into your community for a special Shabbat service. Working together with your prayer leadership team, Yoni will help craft a service where he will present his original and traditional Mizrahi melodies alongside your community’s beloved favorites. With or without instruments, Yoni’s music can help bring the sound of Arab Jewry into your prayer space.

  • Teaching is a central part of the way Yoni engages with community. See below for a list of possible workshop topics:

    • Singing Our Stories: Understanding Our Fragmented Identities

    • Ana Elekh: Entering the World of Maqam and Piyut

    • Alif-Baa: Arabizing the Sounds of Hebrew Pronunciation

    • Mawashahat: Connecting Arab Classical Music to the Synagogue

    • Iqa’at: The Rhythms of Mizrahi Prayer

  • Combine together several programs, for a complete Shabbat of immersive music and learning with Yoni.

  • Prepare for the High Holidays with a concert that showcases and teaches Mizrahi selihot melodies. Perhaps some of these melodies will even become a part of your community’s beloved High Holiday repertoire! As per Mizrahi tradition, this concert can take place anytime during the Hebrew month of Elul.

  • Turn your living room or front porch into an intimate acoustic music venue. This smaller format will allow us to engage on a more casual and personal level, joining our voices together and discovering new avenues for expression and togetherness.
