Frequently Asked Questions
If this page doesn't answer your questions, feel free to email me.
I'd be happy to help you out!
Are your services any better than using a hand-held recorder?
Yes! There are many factors that make my services much better than any hand-held recording products (Zoom, or Tascam for example). First of all, you get the peace of mind to be able to play your best. But more importantly, the sound quality is in a different league. But don't take my word for it: listen to the difference yourself by clicking here: Why Not Just Use the Zoom?
Where should I record?
If you have access to space at your school or workplace, I would recommend reserving a concert hall or large classroom. Other possibilities include churches, lecture halls and community rooms. In some cases, I can provide a recording space in the Boston area, depending on budget and schedule. In the past, I have used theaters, halls and classrooms at Boston University, Boston College, Brandeis University, New England Conservatory and Boston Conservatory. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable playing there. If the space has nice sounding acoustics, that's a big plus.
How long will it take to get my final product?
For all recitals and most simple sessions, I can guarantee you will have your final product within 72 hours after you choose your takes. Rushed (24 hour) production is often available for a fee of $30.
How will I receive my final product?
Videos can be uploaded to youtube or sent via web download. Audio can be sent via web download or emailed. CDs and DVDs are available for a charge of $5 per CD and $10 per DVD.
Do you offer accompanists?
Yes! I work with a large roster of experienced piano accompanists and would be happy to connect you with one for your session. Rates vary from $40-80 per hour.
Can you edit multiple excerpts/clips together into one video?
Yes! I will happily edit up to 20 minutes of video and audio, complete with fade in/out and text. This service is included in the audition and recital recording packages. Any editing beyond this can be completed for an additional fee depending on the particular project.
How do I pay?
Payment must be made in full on or before the day of recording. I can accept cash, check, credit and debit. There is an additional 4%charge added on for credit/debit payments which will be processed through paypal.
Can you splice together music from different takes into one seamless recording?
Yes! Splicing is standard practice in the classical music recording business. However, this services is not included in the audition or recital recording package (most auditions required unedited takes anyway). If you are looking to produce a more commercial recording, splice editing is absolutely available and will be charged by the hour. If you would like to have video, however, the process becomes much more complicated and will require at least two camera angles, more video editing and a higher rate.
